Tacoma Cabana and Rum Bar!

"A Tiki Bar is an island-themed bar and restaurant that specializes in complicated fruit cocktails. They are generally decorated extravagantly with tropical décor, including island flowers and plants, surfboards and tiki carvings. Modern tiki bars often try to not only create an island look, but also make it appear vintage mid-20th century, when the style first became popular." Wikipedia Here at the Cabana, we have recreated the atmosphere of the tiki bar with a modern tropical feel that anyone can be comfortable in, from your seasoned Polynesiac to the most hardcore manhattan/martini sipper. Behind the bar, we combine premium spirits with fresh-squeezed juices, hand-crafted flavorings, and a few secret ingredients. On the other side of the linen curtain, Vacation Fusion cuisine will be prepared from scratch with hand picked, locally sourced ingredients that will make you feel like you are on vacation with every bite.

Tiki History

A tiki bar is an exotic–themed drinking establishment that serves elaborate cocktails, especially rum-based mixed drinks such as the “mai tai” or “Zombie cocktail”. Tiki bars are aesthetically defined by their Tiki culture décor which is based upon a romanticized conception of primitive tropical cultures, most commonly Polynesian.

The Tiki Bar started with Donn the Beachcomber in 1937. His way with drink names and concoctions quickly led him to be the toast of the Hollywood film crowd. He built a Polynesian palace for them to spend their money in. Trader Vic visited one of Donn’s restaurants and quickly followed suit with his own empire of south seas themed restaurants.
